Dear Friend,
I’d like you to sit back, take a moment from your busy day, and think about what thoughts come up for you when you imagine yourself:
Getting paid well, consistently, and on time for your work as a medical writer
Having clients show up out of nowhere because they know the quality of your work
Establishing such a strong professional reputation that people don’t think twice about hiring you—they even seek you out
Working at home (or wherever you want) making more income and having more time than you would if you were a full-time employee
Having a legion of clients and colleagues who are inspired by you and eagerly follow your career
Does that feel out of reach? Or even a little scary?
Or maybe you’re thinking to yourself, “I don’t really think about freelancing as running a business.”
Or…
Maybe you’re used to making a certain amount per month because it’s comfortable…
…and you simply cannot imagine making more—or working harder—than you do now.
You could even have some career or workplace "wounds” from your past that you haven’t healed yet.
For example, maybe you used to be one of the smartest kids in school.
Or you expected to get A’s by just showing up and grinding.
So, if you relate to any of those ideas—and wonder why freelancing isn't showing up like you imagined, then …
trust me:
Most people have negative beliefs and other “work blocks”—which become amplified for people who decide to work for themselves.
Most of these blocks come from what they learned from their families, their time in academia, and the media.
If you watch a lot of TV shows, movies, and even commercials, people who work for themselves often have lives that are depicted as globe-trotting, glamorous, and endlessly adventuresome.
And many business and wealth mindset trainings teach the “law of attraction” and promise instant success, money, or clients.
Plus if no one in your family ever worked for themselves or owned a business, you may have grown up with no idea that this was even possible, let alone something that you would choose to do.
In other words, most people have skewed impressions or negative beliefs about self-employment and blocks about working for themselves.
Heck, you may even have subconscious blocks you don’t even realize are holding you back from making money doing what you’re great at.
Or you might even feel guilty for your time, energy, or talents… and wrestle with your self-image as the tortured genius, the professional student, the burned out clinician, or some other identity that negates all the hard work you have put in.
So if you have any work-related blocks that are holding you back from charging like a business owner, not like some underpaid academic, it’s not your fault.
Because here’s the truth…
That’s because negative attitudes and beliefs about what it means to be smart and highly educated and independently minded are rampant in our culture.
It’s stuff your parents—by trying to encourage you—might have accidentally instilled in you.
Or it might stem from a bad experience you had at some workplace as an adult…
…from toxic bosses to unexpectedly pulled funding that instilled negative beliefs and attitudes about work.
In other words, your collective experience about work and working helps formulate your beliefs and attitudes about working for yourself.
Trust me, I had my own work blocks too, especially since…
Like most people, I didn’t grow up in a family where anyone worked for themselves.
My parents both held jobs throughout my life—my mother as a chemist, educator, and lab director, my father as an architect. Even when the economy got tough and they got laid off, the goal was always to find another job.
That was a running joke in my family. Whenever I came home for a visit, the second question after “How are you?” was always “Are you working?” That always meant, “Do you have a job?”
So my beliefs about work came down to job = good, no job = not good…
…which made any thought of starting a business an unspoken no-no.
All this focus on having a job also came with the implicit understanding that everyone in my family was a hard worker.
If you had a job, you worked hard at it. That was a given.
Side note: Because I’m still the only person in my family to ever start and run a successful business, I’m not quite sure how they measured what it meant to be a “hard worker.”
Fast forward many years later, and I was able to heal those old work-related wounds.
I built a sustainable six-figure annual income as a freelance medical writer.
And I transitioned to running a coaching business to help other freelance medical writers all over the world do just that.
The bottom line is this…
Otherwise, it’ll be like taking one step forward and two steps back with your career, all that education, and your smarts.
You may get a big client and feel like you got “lucky” they paid you your full rate…
…so you don’t try to ask other clients to pay that rate.
Or you had a bad experience with asking for a higher rate with a client and they balked.
This, in turn, made you afraid to ask for higher rates again and caused you to hit a plateau in your business.
You might even have a fear of losing clients, so you don’t get to enjoy the things your work can give you.
Either that or you’re still hungover from your academic experience and don’t know how to explain what you do well enough to get clients to hire you. Or hire you again.
We all have insecurities, fears, worries, challenges, and doubts in our lives … especially about work and working for ourselves.
So, if you want more clients, better clients, and more income, I’ll show you how to get and keep those when you attend…
Nope, this virtual immersion experience is not going to be about the latest tips on how to set up your LLC.
Nor is it how to raise your rates, refine your portfolio, or set up your backend accounting software.
It’s natural to want actionable ideas and “quick wins” that we can logically equate to new clients, great projects…
…and, of course, extra cash in our bank accounts.
We’re going to help you with something much more important than that at Freelance Accelerator.
Yep, I get it.
All that “mindset stuff” seems like a lot of hard work and no immediate reward, right?
But unpacking your work blocks and examining why you are the way you are with your career and your business will make you more confident and in control in every area of your life…
…and your financial future.
This isn’t something that can be “cured” by watching a couple of YouTube videos or going down the rabbit hole bingeing TikTok.
You need an immersive LIVE experience to help you root out what’s blocking you and replace it with empowering beliefs about your work.
Hope's group coaching sessions provided me with clear, actionable strategies that I’ve successfully implemented to refine my niche, optimize my workspace, and boost my productivity. I particularly liked her ongoing encouragement to reflect on my value proposition and goals, which has strengthened my motivation and confidence as a business owner.

For example, one of the resources you’ll have access to is the Habit Finder™ assessment to help uncover your habits of thinking to identify and release those work-related blocks.
It’s an assessment I usually reserve for my HopeXperience clients who pay $10K for me to work with them for a year…
…but I’ll show how you can use this assessment LIVE at Freelance Accelerator.
It’s normal to feel a little disappointed about being a medical writer—especially if you envisioned yourself running a lab or teaching at a great university or having an esteemed career treating patients. This section will help you discover the topics and audiences that excite you the most and feel invigorated and motivated as you identify your unique place in the field.
You’ll get clear on your niche so you can know where and how to market yourself and you’ll create an action plan to put yourself in front of the right clients who will pay you what you are worth.
It’s easy to get into a comfort zone when it comes to how you work. I’ll help you evaluate how to set up your office, your systems, and your relationships so you can easily streamline your work and get on with the work at hand.
Let’s face it … most of us weren’t born with silver spoons in our mouths. This will help you remove those biases and barriers about making money or working for yourself you may have learned growing up.
Many medical writers think that understanding the science and knowing how to write are all that it takes to put out a shingle. This section will show you everything you didn’t know you didn’t know about MS Word, PowerPoint, and online search—including a deep dive into PerfectIt—so you can call yourself a power user and distinguish yourself from every other PhD on the planet.
